Appliance & Electrical Fires

Each year there are 24,300 residential appliance fires resulting in 100 deaths and 925 injuries. Since appliance and electrical fire causes can include misuse, poor maintenance, incorrect installation, overloaded circuits, manufacturing and design defects, each of these areas must be addressed during an investigation involving appliances and electrical device fires. Using state-of-the-art equipment and procedures, WHA's certified fire investigation engineers and scientists are prepared to thoroughly evaluate and analyze each of these important categories. Since 1987, WHA has investigated hundreds of residential and industrial appliance and electrical fires. WHA utilizes a broad range of peer-reviewed and industry standard techniques as its failure analysis tools to determine the root cause of the fire. Typically, a portion of this analysis includes testing of exemplar appliances and electrical systems at the Wendell Hull & Associates Test Facility. The WHA testing provides scientific data which can be used to support or refute a specific theory, and to guide the process for arriving at the root cause of a fire.
